Robin & Hilary celebrate 30 years in Osteopathy

Robin and Hilary Percival were awarded their qualifications in Osteopathy 30 years ago, in 1988 by Princess Anne.

In 1989 they set up their joint practice at 6 Church Brow in Clitheroe. The hall was the waiting area and the front room the practice. Initially they worked at other clinics in the North West; Robin in Southport and Hilary in Barrow in Furness. Then they did each other’s reception work. At first patients found it hard to believe that women were Osteopaths but that soon passed as did the fact that Osteopaths treat children. The clinic became well known for treating 0-100 year olds, a real family osteopathic practice. In some cases we have treated 5 generations of one family.

In 1993 due to our house being overrun with patients, files and paperwork and with pressure from the council we moved to Kendal House Clinic on Chatburn Road. This has been a great site for us, close enough to the town centre and transport links and easy enough for parking. We started to also work in Longridge and Pendle area in 1992.

In the early 1990’s we were trendsetters in running backschools in swimming pools. We marketed the course with the slogan “Percivals Promote Perfect Posture”. We even had coverage on Granada tonight and have frequently been invited onto BBC Radio Lancashire. Some of our patients say their backs were never as good as when we ran our courses.

We have had the privilege to help many local people, and work with locals providing not only a service to the community for osteopathy but also providing good quality complementary therapy. We hope to be here for the next 30 years . There has been a good rapport between us and the local medical services too.

We have many good, funny and fond memories, if you want to hear more …
