Your first appointment
Welcome to Kendal House Clinic – You will find a warm friendly welcome awaiting you.
At your first appointment we need to find out all about you and your problem.
We will ask you many questions that will help us formulate a diagnosis, we will also include a past medical history, including your current medication.
Children and young people should be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. It is very useful if the mother is able to give us details about the birth and formative years.
When we examine you it will most likely be necessary for you to undress down to underwear so we can look, see and learn how your body works. The Osteopath will leave the room while you are changing so you can bring shorts to change into if you would feel more comfortable.
After a thorough examination we would hope to have a discussion with you about
- The diagnosis – what your problem is
- The prognosis – how long it will take to get better
- Choice of treatment – this is a discussion about which treatment we think would get you better quickly and comfortably.
If Osteopathy is not the treatment of choice we will point you in the right direction. If you need further investigation e.g. x-rays, we will arrange this or write to your G.P. on your behalf.
Treatment
If it is appropriate and you give your permission for us to proceed we would give you a treatment at this stage, often the first treatment is short so that we can use it as a test bed for further treatments.
Post-treatment
Most people go on to find that they improve after treatment. A minority find that they can ache for 24 – 36 hours after treatment before feeling better.
If you are worried please contact us, we do wish to know.
Babies and Children
We welcome women who are breast feeding. You can do this in reception or we will try to find a more private space if you require. It is sometimes beneficial to feed your baby while we are treating.
Please bring soothers or special toys for your children, all the practice rooms have access to toys, and we have a wonderful fish tank in our Clitheroe branch.
The Red Book is also useful if you can bring it.
